Lydia’s Land Greeting Cards celebrates thirty years in business!

It’s hard to believe that in a few short days, it will be thirty years since I’ve been in the greeting card business.
The eighties were the renaissance of greeting cards, small card companies were starting to crop up and the non-Hallmark cards were being accepted as the “Unique” greeting card.
I created my own line of twenty-four styles and dove into the business practically blindfolded.
Spurred on my many retailers who liked my designs, I invested my money and printed the cards. Lydia’s Land was born!
However, the hard part was just beginning. I found many stores were reluctant to try a small line of cards and finally managed to acquire some sales representatives. During a part of the eighties, I became a sales rep as well, taking on other small company’s lines so that I could sell my own. (I found it easier to get appointments if I had more lines to show)
Then in the early nineties, I changed my line completely, and it became very popular to gift shops nationwide. I focused more on the sentiment, rather than the illustration, and turned my cards into a handmade line as opposed to a printed line. The nineties were just starting to embrace the idea of handmade cards and mine caught on in a big way.
Thirty years and hopefully many more to come. Happy New Year!
